Amhara and Tigray leaders talk peace
Description
There is no conflict between the people of Tigray and Amhara regional states and they don’t want to come into conflict either, Chief Administrators of both regional states said.
Gedu Andargachew of Amhara regional state and Dr Debretsion Gebremichael of Tigray regional state, made the remark here yesterday at a event organized marking the end of a peace journey carried out by religious leaders and elders to various parts of the country.
Gedu on the occasion praised the religious leaders and elders for their peace initiative as “peace is the key issue for all things.” “Peace is important for us, the country, the people, and our children,” he stated.
“The Amhara people want to live in peace with all people and I’m committed to working for peace.” Both the people of Amhara and Tigray have common history and values; however these values have been eroded since recently, he said.
The people of Amhara do not want to come into conflict with the people of Tigray, he said, but the Amhara people want the existing disagreements to be resolved peacefully and through dialogue.
As a leader of the people of Amhara, I’m committed to working to resolve the problems peacefully, too, Gedu said.
Similarly, Chief Administrator of Tigray regional state, Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, thanked the religious leaders and elders for their efforts to bring peace to the country.
Dr. Debretsion told the religious leaders and the elders that “I’m really sad that you are involved in this because we politicians failed to do things that we were supposed to do.”
“It is shame to see the current hatred, attack, and displacement of people,” he said, adding “we all have made mistakes and we need to act vigorously to rectify these mistakes”
“Nothing is more precious than peace,” he said, further calling for more efforts in maintaining peace by working towards politics and peace indifferently.
