The Ethiopian cinema industry is a recent phenomenon despite Ethiopia being the only African country to own script and history of ancient literary heritage. The theater scene bloomed far earlier than the film industry. Most of them cover the political, social and economic times in Ethiopia. Even though untrained individuals, small production companies and small capital hold it back, the industry is pushing forward.
Everybody agrees that Ethiopian movie features are the most powerful and famous in Africa's film industry. Most films have been nominated for many awards in different categories and some of them have won. The success came as a result of a number of new generation filmmakers and features that satisfy to standards. The good-looking actors also caused quite a stir among international viewers.
Linguistically, Ethiopia has more than eighty languages because of the many nations and nationalities in the country. The official language of Ethiopia is Amharic. Thus, most Ethiopian-made films tend to the Amharic language. Modern Ethiopian films also increasingly incorporate English to the Amharic scripts to reflect how Ethiopian youth infuse English word in the language.
