The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has been under construction since 2011 located in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, about 15 km east of the border with Sudan. Fundraising programs have been organized around the country to collect donations. Recently, fundraising campaigns were held at Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s region and the programs raised 2.5 billion Birr. But only 1.3 billion has been cashed in from the total 2.5 billion Birr. Mereja TV contacted the Office of Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of Ethiopian Renaissance Dam to clarify the issue of the remaining 1.2 billion Birr.
